Good morning, Jim,
While I will forward this on to Susan Rogers in parks planning, I do believe she is aware of the situation.  The unfortunate, practical problem is one of limited budget and multiple priorities.  Thanks for your attention to this issue.

Hello Charlene,
Thank you for up-dating us on the situation. It is a pitty that some sort of lighting cannot be installed before next winter when the unlighted  stairs will again become  dangerous and a person could easily take a bad tumble in the dark. This could possibly lead to a liability claim against the district. I suggest that someone from the district should take a walk down the stairs, without a flashlight, on a dark moonless rainy night.
Also direction signs should be placed at at each end of the pathway. Several times I have come across young people, possibly homestay students, walking along Berkley looking in driveways for the footpath to Riverside.
    Thanks again,
            Jim

Charlene,
It is not in the 2003 Capital Budget Requests, as we have a long list of other trail projects that have been sitting in line for several years. We do, however, have it in our list for attention.

Thanks.

Good morning, Jim,

This situation was brought to our attention by Riverside residents during the draft Plan review process .  As a result, we now have a policy in the parks section plan which reads:

7.2.1.7  Upgrade the steep sections and investigate lighting of the trail connecting Rivergrove Place to Berkley.

Budget input opportunities have already occurred for this year's budget, but I imagine that within the budgets for trail upgrades, this could be considered, along with other situations, and prioritized.  I have copied Susan Rogers on this message, who may be able to give a better idea of priority.

Thanks,

Charlene

Hi Charlene,
I have been informed by Amand Loranjo, who lives at 2107 Berkley, that the stairway which runs along the isde of her lot and from Berkley to Riverside Drive should have some lighting. This stairway is frequently used by young people who live on Riverside and who use the stairs to catch or alight from the 214 Blueridge Bus. She has seen them lighting the fliers to find their way on dark nights.
I would like to know who to contact at the District Office to discuss this further,
    Thanks,
            Jim
